DESCRIPTION:The Auckland NZEALS Branch invites you to join a FREE middle leader face to face mini- symposium. To be held at Grey Lynn School (Auckland Central)\, 14th October (2nd Thursday of the semester break)\, 11am- 2.30pm (Note morning tea and registration from 10.30am).\nThere are many approaches and methods that promote leadership development dependent on individual’s specific needs\, but\, networking\, sharing practice\, in- school practice and building your own capacity through study are just some that we know work. \nA survey of the development needs of 436 middle leaders (Bush\, T. & Glover\, D. 2004 NCSL)\, identified that eight of the top 10 items relate directly to building expertise in leading teaching and learning: \n\ntaking action to address problems in teaching quality and competence\nmonitoring and evaluating the work of all staff teaching the subject\nmonitoring and evaluating progress of all pupils\ntaking action to address problems in pupil progress\nlong-term planning for development of the subject\npromoting effective teaching of the subject\ndeveloping assessment\, recording and reporting policies and practice\nongoing development of own teaching methodologies\n\nSo\, middle leaders how can this symposium support your learning?\n\nProgramme\n\n\n\n10:30 – 11:00 am\nRegistration and tea and coffee\n\n\n11:00 am\nKey note speaker- Perry Rush (President of NZPF) -The challenge of being an ‘outstanding’ school leader NOW!\n\n\n11:45 am\nPanel of 1st time Principals talking about their pathways\, successes and challenges followed by Q&A facilitated by Dr Anne Malcolm.\n\n\n12:20 pm\nKeynote speaker -Mary-Anne Murphy- Director and Founder of Momentum Learning- Emotional Leadership- Steering your moral compass to be an ethical and empathetic leader.\n\n\n1:10 pm – 1:40 pm\nLunch- Being together\n\n\n1:40 pm – 2:15 pm\n\nBreakout sessions – sadly you can only choose One \n\n2 DPs share their journey- to becoming senior leaders\nSandra Jenkins (Co-founder & Director at Autens Pasifika) A career of school leadership – reflections on my journey\nPacific learners – Understanding what successful partnerships with family looks like.. Helen Varney from Tautai o le moana\nEnsuring Maori Learners can be successful -in every school and every classroom as Maori MAC presentation\n\n\n\n\n\n  \nNZEALS\, is long term New Zealand cross sector leadership non-profit group. In 2021\, we have held to date\, 4 online forums focussed on leaders sharing dialogue . The overarching theme of ‘Being the Leader you need to be’. We have considered navigating leadership\, relational leadership\, leadership for social good\, culturally responsive leadership. \n	We do ask that if you sign up for this mini (face to face) symposium that you come along. Our speakers are giving their time to support your leadership.\nWe welcome all educational leaders to this conference\, which includes middle leaders\, aspirant leaders\, teacher leaders and leaders of learning.
