Managing Privilege Loss (in ourselves and others)
With provocation by Dr Thomas Owen

Dr Thomas Owen is a Senior Lecturer in Communication Studies at AUT - teaching Intercultural Communication and Global Crises and the Media. His most recent project focuses on privilege loss, exploring how we experience and communicate relative losses of privilege

Thomas skilfully guided the attendees at this workshop through a process of deep reflection and energised discussion relating to managing privilege loss in ourselves and others across a variety of social categories. These included for example, gender, ethnicity, social-economic status.

Attendees engaged in a framework of activities beginning with identifying privilege, through to focusing on privilege loss and what we do to avoid loss, moving to considering positive responses to privilege loss.

This evening challenged our thinking with impact and sensitivity providing the basis for further reflections and conversations.

Our thanks to Thomas.
