Abstract

NZEALS has two publications: our Leading Lights newsletter and our international journal, JELPP: the Journal of Educational Leadership, Policy and Practice. This workshop is designed to introduce new writers to academic publishing. It can seem a big step, writing for a blog or newsletter to writing for a refereed journal, but it can also be a huge achievement. One of our recent authors opened a bottle of bubbly to celebrate her first published paper!

 

This workshop reminds us of the value of publishing in this medium, and outlines the process of academic writing. It will de-mystify the process of refereeing and responding to referee comments. JELPP publishes papers by experienced authors from many countries, but also takes time and care to mentor novice authors.

 

If you have educational leadership research to disseminate, or leadership experiences to analyse and publish, then this workshop is for you.  We hope also that some of our published authors will attend to join in the discussion and share the journey.

Biography

Ann Briggs & Michele Morrison

Dr Ann Briggs is Emeritus Professor of Educational Leadership, co-editor with Marianne Coleman and Marlene Morrison of Research Methods in Educational Leadership and Management. For many years she was the National Secretary of NZEALS and is production editor of JELPP. With a background in secondary and adult education, she understands the busy lives of our authors and enjoys the process of bringing their work to publication.

 

Dr. Michele Morrison is a senior lecturer and Director of the Centre for Educational Leadership Research at the University of Waikato. Her scholarship explores culturally responsive, ethical, and socially just leadership, emphasizing context, identity, and dialogic praxis. Drawing on extensive practitioner experience, Michele engages with global research networks and professional communities to advance leadership development that honours lived experience, fosters critical reflection, and promotes transformative educational change. She is the principal editor of JELPP.
