Looking after yourself whilst doing good for others

Presenter/s: Ian Harper
Type:
Keywords: Motivation, Wellbeing, Balance

Abstract

Leaders in education need to be motivated, focussed and resilient, in good, and bad times. Sometimes this can leave them stressed and stretched. When this occurs, we can overthink things, procrastinate or become single minded and focussed on the wrong things. This can lead to ‘complaining’ and ‘unhappiness’ at home which creates tension and that is carried into the workplace.
At this workshop/discussion, participants will identify aspects of work and life which are important to them and create a quick balancing plan.
Using my “Puzzle of Contentment” model, participants will personalise/prioritise each of 10 possible aspects to consider and identify those which require their attention to balance their work and personal life. They can then turn these into personal goals.
Contentment means:
“A balanced alignment of workplace and homelife needs, like a jigsaw puzzle, requiring all pieces fitting together to give the full picture”
When these aspects are in harmony, our overall sense of contentment increases, and we can continually reflect on and change these as appropriate.
Benefits:
• Better energy/well-being
• Improved communication
• Reduced stress/prevention of burnout
• Improved motivation, productivity and focus
• Greater flexibility and control over your time
• Stronger emotional resilience and MH
• Increased satisfaction at work and home
