Middle Leader Symposium

October 14 @ 11:00 am - 2:30 pm

The Auckland NZEALS Branch invites you to join a FREE middle leader face to face mini- symposium. To be held at Grey Lynn School (Auckland Central), 14th October (2nd Thursday of the semester break), 11am- 2.30pm (Note morning tea and registration from 10.30am).

There are many approaches and methods that promote leadership development dependent on individual’s specific needs, but, networking, sharing practice, in- school practice and building your own capacity through study are just some that we know work.

A survey of the development needs of 436 middle leaders (Bush, T. & Glover, D. 2004 NCSL), identified that eight of the top 10 items relate directly to building expertise in leading teaching and learning:

  • taking action to address problems in teaching quality and competence
  • monitoring and evaluating the work of all staff teaching the subject
  • monitoring and evaluating progress of all pupils
  • taking action to address problems in pupil progress
  • long-term planning for development of the subject
  • promoting effective teaching of the subject
  • developing assessment, recording and reporting policies and practice
  • ongoing development of own teaching methodologies

So, middle leaders how can this symposium support your learning?

Come along, listen and be challenged by 1st time principals, key note speakers sharing their knowledge and a range of breakout sessions that hopefully resonate with your vision for learners and leadership. Take time to share experiences with other middle leaders over a lovely lunch and during breaks. And, how much will this cost you? Nothing but your commitment to be there!!!
