LEADING LIGHTS Issue 3 | 2020
A Changing Season

Tēnā koutou katoa
It seems likely that sales in Adaptive Leadership texts have increased in the last few months. The article in this issue written by Anne Malcolm on behalf of NZEALS Council describes the process of re-structuring to which the NZEALS National Council has committed their capabilities and time over recent months. Responding to the needs of the COVID-19 landscape NZEALS is intentionally driving forward into a new season of professional learning.
It is important to emphasise that NZEALS' values and beliefs have always been grounded in the importance of the people in our membership and growing leadership practices that support and nurture all of us. We followed through on this belief in the way that we interviewed and listened to members as we considered the best of changes.
I encourage you to respond to our organisation’s initiatives by joining and contributing to the online forums beginning on August 3rd and 5th. We want to hear your voice.
As I wrote in Leading Lights Issue 1 2020… there are times in leadership to intentionally step in and times to intentionally step back.
It has been a privilege to have stepped into the role of NZEALS National President over the last 18 months first as Acting and then fully elected. However, new areas have opened up in my work as a leadership coach in education that require more time commitment. Again, an example of a Change of Season. Therefore, I am stepping down and ‘passing the baton’ to Anne Malcom. Thank you, Anne for accepting this role; one that is not new to you and one to which you will bring your flair, knowledge and experience. Most of all you will bring your passion for NZEALS’ place in the leadership landscape of Aotearoa.
I close in thanking all members of NZEALS National Council for the dedication that you bring to your roles.
Ngā mihi mahana
Maggie Ogram
National President (Outgoing)
The NZEALS Council would like to thank Maggie for her wonderful contribution to NZEALS, as Auckland President, National Vice-President and National President. She has given freely of her time and energy to sustain the organisation, and to develop new ways of connecting with members. She is leaving us a valuable legacy: thank you, Maggie.
