Conference 2022

In a spirit of optimism, our NZEALS biennial conference is back on the calendar: we plan to meet in Hamilton on 7-9 September 2022. Our boutique scale of conference encourages people to come together to inter-connect and share their leadership experience. It’s a space for holding generative conversations, engaging with relevant research and hearing insightful speakers.

Through our theme of Tūrangawaewae we will explore ways of being and belonging in Aotearoa leadership spaces. This is a focus which has already stimulated thoughtful discussion in our 2021 online leadership forums.

We extend a warm welcome to all educational leaders across the education sectors, and particularly invite aspirant leaders, middle leaders, team leaders, leaders of learning - the list is endless - to join our kōrero.

At present, we're at the planning stage, and we’d like to collect expressions of interest in attending this conference. The indicative cost – including a conference dinner at Hobbiton – is expected to be around $750 per person. There will be special rates for NZEALS members, and for groups attending from the same school or ECE centre.

To express an interest in registration for NZEALS 2022, please click the button below and fill in the form. This puts you under no obligation to register, but it will enable you to join with us in planning the shape and content of the conference.

TŪRANGAWAEWAE

As we join together on Tainui land at the University of Waikato in September 2022, after a tumultuous few years, it is appropriate that our conference korero (dialogue) should focus on the places where we stand as leaders. We welcome all educational leaders to this conference, which includes middle leaders, aspirant leaders, teacher leaders and leaders of learning: registrations of pairs or groups of leaders from the same institution will therefore be encouraged.

Situated at the confluence of the Waikato and Waipa awa (rivers) in Ngāruawāhia, Tūrangawaewae marae is the official residence of Kīngi Tuheitia Potatau Te Wherowhero VII, the seat of Kīngitanga, and the ancestral Aotearoa home of Waikato Tainui. Further afield, tūrangawaewae is a Māori term for the places where we feel greatest allegiance, belonging, empowerment and connection. Tūrangawaewae constitutes the physical, emotional and spiritual foundation on which we stand (tūranga = a place to stand, waewae = feet).

Hobbiton, the film set of Sir Peter Jackson's epic series adapted from J.R.R. Tolkien's classic stories, is the venue for our conference dinner on September 8th.

Please alert your colleagues to this inspirational kōrero especially your own middle leaders.
